August 11, 2022:
SPFA joined with more than 70 other national trade associations, including ACCA, ABC, IEC, NRCA, NAHB and WSRCA, as a signatory on this letter to leaders in the US Congress to oppose the portion of the Inflation Reduction Act that would result in a tax increase on small and mid-sized business. July 11, 2022:
There have been a number of stories this week suggesting that the Senate is preparing to raise taxes on Main Street businesses under the National Investment Income Tax (NIIT) program. This story below from the AP hits all the common half-truths, while the second article provides a more accurate perspective on the proposed tax hike. Essentially this tax hike would add an additional 3.8% tax on income over $400k from small and medium sized businesses structured as pass-through businesses (sole proprietors and S-corporations).
